Charles Bonnet syndrome is characterized by recurrent or persistent complex visual hallucinations that occur in a visually compromised person with intact cognitive abilities and no evidence of psychiatric illness. Visual deterioration, such as macular degeneration, cataract, glaucoma, and central retinal artery occlusion, can result in Charles Bonnet syndrome. Several cases of Charles Bonnet syndrome related to visual pathway disorders, including optic neuritis and brain tumors, have also been reported. However, there have been no reports of Charles Bonnet syndrome resulting from multifocal intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. A review of the literature and a case of a patient with Charles Bonnet syndrome after multifocal IOL implantation is presented.
