Abstract We aimed to prepare frovatriptan succinate monohydrate (FSM) loaded sublingual films to provide direct entry of FSM into systemic circulation by escaping first-pass effect and thus providing quick onset of action. Solvent casting method was used to prepare FSM films employing hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose E15 (HPMC E15) as film forming agent, mannitol as release modifier, glycerine as plasticizer and chitosan or carboxymethyl cellulose sodium (CMCNa) as mucoadhesive polymer at low concentration. Placebo films were made using HPMC E15, glycerine and mannitol to get optimized ratio of these excipients giving acceptable films with desired physicochemical properties of films i.e. folding endurance (>300) and disintegration time (
