Abstract The concentration profiles of carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide in the anode of a Direct carbon fuel cell are modeled. The concentration profiles are modeled as a function of operational parameters namely time, bulk conductivity in the liquid phase, bulk conductivity in the solid phase and specific area of the carbon particles. The highest concentration of carbon dioxide is seen closest to the anode current collector while the concentration of carbon monoxide is seen to increase with increase in distance from the current collector. The bulk conductivity in the liquid phase and the bulk conductivity in the solid phase are found to impact the concentration profiles of carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide significantly in the anode layer. Model predictions are compared with experimental data and found to compare well.
