Abstract The electrochemical activated-CFP supported nano-Pt electrode was designed for degrading concentrated HNO3. The influence of pre-thermal treatment of the activated-CFP on the electrodeposition of Pt was investigated, indicating that the decrease in surface oxygen content is beneficial to the electrodeposition of Pt nanoparticles. The nano-Pt/activated-CFP was directly used as a highly reactive electrode for electroreduction of HNO3, showing a high current density for the formation of ammonia ions. This study will provide a possibility for the electrochemical treatment of concentrated HNO3 with the formation of low- and non-toxic byproducts.
