Abstract A nickel based organometallic complex is reported herein for non-enzymatic detection of urea. Nickel complex of benzimidazoyl pyridine ([Ni(bzimpy)2]Cl2) derivative offers an excellent nickel core for urea sensing. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) and linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) have been utilized for analysing the sensing behaviour of urea. The modified carbon paste electrode (MCPE) has a lower limit of detection (LOD) of 1.5 µM with a linear sensing range from 0.01 to 0.1 mm the sensor also exhibits prominent response towards urea, compared to other interferents. The substantial stability and reproducibility of the sensor is augmented by its high recovery rate in real world samples. The utility of the complex as a chemiresistor sensor has also been investigated.
