Abstract Temperature dependence of the photophysical properties of europium(III) complex with the benzoylcetonate ligand were evaluated. The photostability of the complex and the temperature dependence of the 5 D 0 → 7 F 2 transition band area (maximum relative sensitivity of 5.25% K −1 at 303 K) makes this complex promising as temperature probe. The temperature dependence of the 5 D 0 → 7 F 0 transition band indicates that the electron-phonon coupling is probably the main mechanism operating in the temperature dependence of the photophysical properties of the complex.
