Abstract The method of “scanning diaphragm” is proposed to determine the primary inner-filter effect (pIFE) correction in fluorescence spectra and the geometric dimensions of the region in which fluorescence is observed. It is tested using a Hitachi MPF 4 fluorimeter. The obtained data on the geometric parameters of fluorescence observation region are close to those for Shimadzu RF-5000U, Bausch and Lomb Spectronic 2000 and PTI QM-1 spectrometers.
