Abstract In this paper, we investigate the initial value problem for the generalized double dispersion equation in R n . Under suitable conditions, global classical solutions are proved for n ≥ 3 and n ≥ 1 , respectively. Moreover, pointwise estimates of global classical solutions are established when n ≥ 3 and n is an odd integer by Fourier splitting frequency technique.
