Abstract In this paper, MnZn ferrites were used as coating agents to prepare MnZn/FeSiAl soft magnetic composites (SMCs) in order to improve the magnetic property, because of the higher permeability of magnetic MnZn ferrites than that of traditional coatings which are always nonmagnetic. The effects of molding pressure, annealing temperature, and content of insulation on the soft magnetic properties of MnZn/FeSiAl SMCs were studied. With increasing molding pressure, the effective permeability of the SMCs increased firstly and then decreased, while the core loss decreased firstly and then increased, and both have the best performance at 1.6 GPa. The permeability increased with increasing temperature, reached the maximum value at 660 °C and then decreased, while the core loss decreased with increasing temperature to 700 °C and then increased. The permeability increased with increasing MnZn content from 0.1 to 3% and then decreased, while the D-C bias property continuously increased.
