Abstract In this study, new electron-withdrawing peripherally tetra {2-[2,3,5,6-tetrafluorophenoxy]ethoxy} groups substituted CoII Pc and FeII Pc have been synthesized for the first time and their structures have been characterized by using IR, 1H NMR, mass and UV–Vis spectroscopy techniques. Electrochemical properties of FeIIPc and CoIIPc were investigated by using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and square wave voltammetry (SWV) techniques. Voltammetric analyses of phthalocyanines supported the proposed structure of the synthesized complexes. Iron and cobalt phthalocyanines showed metal and ligand based reduction reactions as expected. Also Co(II) and Fe(II) phthalocyanine complexes (1,2) were examined as a catalyst for the oxidation of benzyl alcohol with changing different parameters to determine the optimal conditions.
