Abstract Two new N, N-bis(diphenylphosphino)-amine ligands [where amine = N-Aminophthalimide (in L1) and Hydrazine dihydrochloride (in L2)] and their Pd(II) complexes, C1 and C2 have been synthesized and characterized by IR and NMR spectroscopies. Single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques have been used to determine the crystal structures of the complexes. Moreover, the catalytic activities of mentioned complexes in Heck coupling reactions have been assessed. The NBO analysis has been used to investigate the nature of the metal-ligand interactions. In the case of L2, preparation route could have produced two different products (Pro.1 and Pro.2), but only one structure has been gained which has been prepared in high purity. To address the reason for this manner, kinetics and thermodynamics of two different pathways that could have led to possible products have been investigated theoretically.
