Abstract The ammonium salt of 1,1′-ferrocenylene-bis(methylphosphinic) acid was obtained and structurally characterized. The salt forms a supramolecular 3D structure due to hydrogen bonds between the layers formed by ammonium cations and 1,1′-ferrocenylene-bis(methylphosphinic) acid dianions. It is found that the methyl substituent in the salt does not prevent the formation of hydrogen bonds in three-dimensional space.
