Abstract We investigate some ring theoretic properties of almost Krull domains. By using the language of star operations, we shed new light on the work of Pirtle on almost Krull domains. That allows us to give a new characterization of these domains. On the other hand, we show that Int ( D ) issued from an almost Krull domain is D–locally free and we give a complete characterization of when Int ( D ) is an almost Krull domain.
