During 11-14th October 2016, the jubilee 10th Central and Eastern EuropeanProteomics Conference (CEEPC) tookplace in theResearchCentre for Natural Sciences, Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Budapest. As usual, the meeting covered most aspects of proteomics, like fundamental approaches of protein identification and quantification, technical developments and instrumentation, as well as interdisciplinary applications in chemistry, biology, medicine and bioinformatics. Various directions of the proteomic research were addressed such as analytical proteomics, clinical proteomics, microbial proteomics or plant proteomics. The original idea of launching a new series of conferences as a logical platform for regular meetings of proteomics researchers from neighbor states in the Central and Eastern Europe appearedwithin the Czech Proteomics Society (an affiliate to the Czech Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology) in 2006. At that time, Josef Chmelík (1953-2007) was very enthusiastic to make this idea come true as the official Czech representative at the European Proteomics Association whowell recognized the necessity to initiate, stimulate and reinforce close scientific and friendly contacts in the region. The1st CEEPCwasorganized inPrague in2007by theCzechProteomics Societywith a key role of the PresidentHanaKovarova in the LocalOrganizing Committee. This inaugural meeting was largely supported by participants from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Hungary, Germany, Russia and certainly also fromother European countries, who spontaneously decided to continue in a newborn tradition. The invited speakers arrived for example from the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, Russia, Canada and the United States. Since that time, the CEEPC Board has been established with Hana Kovarova, Suresh Jivan Gadher, Günter Allmaier, Martina Marchetti-Deschmann, Ales Svatos, Karoly Vekey and Laszlo Drahos to mention explicitly the most involved members. The next CEEPCs were then organized in Jena (2008), Budapest (2009), Vienna (2010), Prague (2011), Budapest (2012), Vienna (2014) and Poznan (2015). In the meantime, other countries joined the CEEPC Board including Poland, Romania andMacedonia. The event has become a well-established part of the official activities of the Czech Proteomics Society, Hungarian Proteomics Society, Austrian Proteomics Association and Polish Proteomics Society. The history and current status of CEEPC are summarized in the introductory review article by Hana Kovarova and Suresh Jivan Gadher. Readers are also kindly asked to look at the official webpages of the conference at http://ceepc.eu. This special issue contains review articles on the analysis of integral membraneproteins, role of alarmins asmarker proteins in chronic noninfectious diseases (atherosclerosis, diabetes and cancer) and quantitative body fluids proteomics. Regular articles deal with changes in the
