Abstract In this work we report an analytical representation for the solution of the radiative-conductive S N equation in inhomogeneous plane-parallel atmospheres considering arbitrary continuous and sectionally continuous functions for the albedo. The basic idea consists in the application of the decomposition procedure to the non-linear radiative-conductive S N problem that are easily solved by the LTS N method. The length of the recursive system is properly choose in order to get a prescribed accuracy for the results. We also present numerical simulations and an analysis of convergence for the solution of the recursive system associated with the heat transfer in isotropic and anisotropic media for a specific set of parameters and boundary conditions.
