Abstract Multicolor-tunable phosphors Ba3B6Si2O16: Tb3+, Eu3+ were synthesized by the high-temperature solid state method. Phase structure, luminescent properties and energy transfer were researched. All the doped ions have effectively replaced part of Ba2+ sites in the host Ba3B6Si2O16. Under 377 nm excitation, the characteristic 4f-4f transitions of Tb3+ and Eu3+ ion are observed simultaneously and the luminescent color can be effectively tuned from green via yellow to red with the increase of Eu3+ concentration. Energy transfer from Tb3+ to Eu3+ was confirmed by photoluminescence spectra and luminescent decay curves. Ba3B6Si2O16: Tb3+, Eu3+ phosphors can be potentially useful in the application of NUV chip excited LEDs with wide band gap and good thermal stability.
