Abstract Inorganic gallates are attractive owing to their abundant structures and wide applications for nonlinear optics, magnetism, molecular sieve and catalysis. Herein, a new cesium cadmium gallate, CsCdGa3O6, has been synthesized by a solid-state reaction, which is the first I-II-III-O (I = alkali metals, II = divalent metals, III = Al, Ga, In) type oxide. It crystallizes in the centrosymmetric space group P21/c, and the three-dimensional Ga–O polyanionic framework is constructed by [Ga4O14]16− helical belts linked [Ga6O6]6+ and [Ga8O8]8+ cages. Thermal analysis indicates that it possesses high thermal stability. Various characterizations and results analysis including XRD, TG-DSC, IR, Raman spectrum, as well as electronic structure calculations were performed.
