Abstract For as long as Automatic Ball Balancers are used as a means to automatically reduce unbalance in rotating machinery, it is known that these are prone to some statistical scatter in their balancing behaviour due to stiction. This diffusion leads to non-repetitive runs which has lead to a limited implementation in industry. Presented in this paper is a new balancing procedure showing that a temporary speed reduction strategy can lead to a significant reduction of residual unbalance.
