Abstract Furfural was directly obtained from bamboo powder in water–toluene biphasic solvents at 443 K over a chabazite-type (CHA) zeolite prepared with an interzeolite conversion method from a faujasite-type zeolite. The CHA zeolite was effective for the hydrolysis of hemicellulose fraction in ball-milled bamboo powder to xylose and selective dehydration of xylose to furfural.
