Abstract We extend the pattern of behavior of some special sequences of polynomials, related to the usual derivative, to a larger context described by Ward in [44] . We also get some combinatorial properties of a family of matrices obtained by means of Ward's derivatives associated to the columns of Pascal's triangle.
