Abstract The existing pesticide residue detection methods have the defects of the detection process, detection time, detection object and detection accuracy. In order to solve these problems, in this paper, a highly sensitive method for the detection of organochlorine pesticide residues based on loop-shaped absorber was proposed. The designed loop-shaped absorber has a strong interaction with the incident terahertz wave, and two strong absorption peaks appear in the 0.1–2 THz THz band. The experimental results show that when different concentrations of toxaphene (TP) solution are added. The dielectric environment indicated by the absorber changes, and the frequency of the absorber resonance peak is red-shifted. The interaction between the electric field generated by the loop-shaped absorber and the sample is significantly enhanced compared to the direct detection of the sample in the terahertz wave, and the sample signal can be amplified. Therefore, the use of the loop-shaped absorber can enhance the interaction between the terahertz wave and the sample, and can utilize the frequency shift signal of the resonance peak of the metamaterial absorber to improve the sensitivity of the sample detection, and realize the detection and analysis of the trace sample.
