Abstract Ni 3 Si templates with regularly aligned micro-channels were fabricated through producing Ni-Ni 3 Si eutectics with a lamellar microarchitecture by directional solidification and selective dissolution of Ni phase. After etching 72 h, the Ni phase in Ni-Ni 3 Si multiphase eutectic was removed completely, and Ni 3 Si compound with numerous narrow channels was revealed. The inner wall of the micro-channels is not smooth, and exist some growth steps. The average width of these micro-channels in the Ni 3 Si template is 2.3 µm and the thickness of Ni 3 Si template with through channels is approach to 800 µm. Therefore, this work is expected to offer a new route of fabricating micro-channeled Ni 3 Si intermetallic compound, which can be used as a template to other materials.
