Abstract With the aim of enhancing the light trapping, novel double-textured ZnO:Al transparent conducting films with crater-nanorod-like structures were prepared successfully by the low cost hydrothermal growth of nanorods on the crater-like textured films. A high average visible total transmittance and a low sheet resistance were achieved in the double-textured films. Compared with the single-textured films, double-textured ZnO:Al films exhibited higher haze and diffuse transmittance value over the whole wavelength region, which indicated superior light scattering ability. The crater-nanorod-like double-textured structures of ZnO:Al films with excellent optoelectronic and light trapping properties have potential application in solar cells for improving the light trapping.
