Abstract Multiferroic ceramics, (1− x )BiFeO 3 - x Ba(Fe 1/2 Nb 1/2 )O 3 (BF- x BaFN), with x ranging from 0.1 to 0.6, were prepared by conventional mixed oxide method. X-ray diffraction analyses indicates a rhombohedral distorted perovskite structure ( R 3 c space group) of BiFeO 3 for x = 0.1 and cubic-like perovskite structure for x  = 0.2–0.6. Significant magnetic enhancements were discovered in the BF- x BaFN ceramics. Ferromagnetic loops revealed the maximum remanent magnetization of 1.61 emu/g of BF- x BaFN with x  = 0.25.
