Abstract Cu 2 O nanowires array were successfully fabricated on Cu substrate by anodic oxidation method. The prominent (1 1 1) peak revealed by X-ray diffraction confirmed the one-dimensional growth trend of Cu 2 O nanowires. Scanning electron microscopy images indicated that the fabricated Cu 2 O nanowires almost vertical growth on the substrate. The average length of Cu 2 O nanowires is about 12 μm. These nanowires were arranged neatly to form compact nanowires array. Furthermore, the photoelectric output properties of Cu 2 O nanowires array as a photoelectrode was investigated.
