Abstract A new organic ionic plastic crystal triethylmethylammonium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (N1222FSI) was successfully synthesized and introduced into the polymeric ionic liquid (PIL)/LiTFSI system to prepare a novel series of N1222FSI-PIL-LiTFSI solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs). The SPEs present good mechanical property, high room temperature ionic conductivity above 2 × 10−4 S cm−1, good thermal and electrochemical stability, as well as potential ability to suppress the lithium dendrite growth. Furthermore, Li/ as-obtained SPE /LiFePO4 cells reveal high discharge capacity, impressive cycle life and rate performance at 40 °C. The novel SPE with high ionic conductivity prepared in this work has great potential for the application in lithium ion batteries.
