Abstract Cu–Al–Ni shape memory alloys have good thermal stability and shape memory properties, but mechanical working of these alloys is very difficult due to inter-granular fracture and brittleness. This paper deals with improvement of shape memory properties and ductility of these alloys with the addition of boron. It was observed that with addition of boron in a designed experiment, ductility improved by more than four times than that of the base alloy. In addition, shape memory properties also improved significantly. These results obtained are discussed in this paper systematically.
