Abstract CNTs/Cu-Al2O3 composite powders were successfully synthesized by in situ CVD using Cu-Al2O3 composite powders obtained by internal oxidation of Cu-Al alloy powders. The multi-walled CNTs are obtained without agglomeration and stand on the surface of the composite powders. One end of the CNTs is well bound to matrix. The Cu nanoparticle was the catalyst for the growth of CNTs on the composite powders and Al2O3 on the surface of the Cu-Al2O3 powder plays a key role in the growth process.
