Abstract ZnO@h-MoO3 heteronanostructure with ZnO nano rods on 1D h-MoO3 was successfully synthesized via cost effective facile solid state impregnation-calcination method. XRD results confirm the presence of hexagonal structured ZnO and MoO3 in the heteronanostructures. FESEM and HRTEM images proved that one dimensional rod shaped ZnO has been decorated on 1D h-MoO3 structures. The possible formation and photocatalytic mechanism were explained in detail. Compared to pristine h-MoO3 and ZnO, the heterostructure shows superior visible light activity (>95%) on Methylene Blue degradation. Also, the catalyst was employed to degrade the textile dye effluent (real sample analysis) and degraded effectively under the influence of visible light.
