Abstract In this work, we have developed a facile chemical solution to fabricate AA-[Zn(OH)4]2− hybrid microspheres (denoted as ZnO) hybrid microspheres decorated by Ag nanoparticles via in-situ reduction of silver nitrate and the Ag nanoparticles were with an average size of several nanometers. The as-prepared samples show superior antibacterial activities, which is attributed to the combinational antibacterial effect of Ag nanoparticles and the substrate. Additionally, the as-prepared ZnO/Ag hybrid microspheres show much better antibacterial activity than that of the commercial inorganic Ag antibacterial agent. We believed that this work can be extended for practical applications in microbial pollution, antibacterial pigment, etc.
