Abstract To inhibit the shuttle effect of the intermediate products, the utilization of carbon materials as the separator coatings is an important theme for Li-S batteries. However, which structure of carbon is the most competitive candidate that has never reached a common consensus. This work presented different composite separators coated with carbon nanoparticles, carbon nanotubes and graphene nanosheets. The surface morphology, stacking density and the cyclic performances as well as the rate properties of the composite separators were fully analyzed. The purpose is to reveal the different properties of structures, which affect the conductivity and ion transmission of separator during the charging-discharging process.
