Abstract Long carrier lifetimes calculated from current-voltage and capacitance-voltage characteristics of the X-cut and Z-cut lithium tetraborate Li2B4O7 are presented herein. It is further revealed that the carrier lifetime along the [001] direction is almost six times the carrier lifetime along the [100] direction, which is consistent with the well-established highly anisotropic charge carrier conduction in the tetragonal Li2B4O7. Thus, the reported long carrier lifetimes project Li2B4O7 as a potential candidate for complete solid-state detector applications.
