Abstract AlCoCrFeNi high entropy alloy (HEA) was coated on AISI410 stainless steel through the electro spark deposition. Fine melt droplets in the arc-zone led to fine dendrites in the coating. Coated phase contained body centered cubic with a minor fraction of face centered cubic phase. Constituent elements from HEA were diffused in the substrate and led to solid solution strengthening at the interface. Threefold increase in the microhardness (to 907 ± 17 HV) was achieved after coating, compared to steel. HEA coated pin exhibits very good wear resistance.
