Abstract A new oxide ion conductor namely Bi doped La(1−x)NaTi2O7 was successfully synthesized by direct mixing method. XRD and FTIR analyses confirmed the formation of composite and ruling out the possibility of any chemical reaction between the constituents. Microstructure of the pellets depicted denser and granular morphology. AC impedance spectroscopy evidenced that x = 0.1 composition shows maximum conductivity as compared to other compositions. The impacts of Bi substitution on the electric and dielectric properties were evaluated. The ionic conductivity of the system was found to increase with addition of bismuth oxide up to x = 0.1 thereafter decreased. The value of dielectric constant was increased with temperature and it decreased with increase in frequency.
