Abstract The work is focused on the concept of identification of critical parameters of the random cellular automata finite element (RCAFE) fracture model. The investigated parameters are related to the fracture initiation criteria at the micro scale level for further simulation of the dual phase steel behaviour under deformation conditions. Parameters for brittle and ductile fractures initiation are identified based on the close combination of experimental and numerical in-situ tensile tests. Concept of the RCAFE model as well as details of proposed identification methodology with examples of obtained results are presented within the paper.
