espanolResumen Las alteraciones hematologicas son muy frecuentes, tanto en viajeros como en inmigrantes, de estas, la eosinofilia, la neutropenia, la anemia y la trombopenia son las mas frecuentes y su hallazgo debe continuarse con un estudio pormenorizado y protocolizado. Inicialmente, es fundamental, sobre todo en la poblacion inmigrante, descartar la infeccion por el VIH, en cuyo caso estas alteraciones hematologicas pueden deberse a la propia infeccion, a los efectos secundarios del tratamiento antirretrovirico, a fenomenos inmunitarios u otros procesos asociados al VIH. Una vez descartada la infeccion por el VIH, deberemos continuar el proceso diagnostico, haciendo una distincion entre los viajeros y los inmigrantes, ya que las causas difieren en estos dos grupos. De forma general, ademas de a la infeccion por el VIH, la pancitopenia debe orientarnos de entrada al diagnostico de malaria o leishmaniasis visceral. EnglishHaematological disorders are a very common occurrence in both travellers and immigrants. The most frequent disorders are eosinophilia, neutropaenia, anaemia and thrombocytopenia, whose diagnosis should be followed by a detailed and protocolised examination. Particularly among the immigrant population, it is crucial to first rule out an HIV infection, in which case the haematological alterations could be due to the infection itself, the adverse effects of the patient's antiretroviral therapy, certain immune conditions or other HIV-associated processes. Once an HIV infection has been ruled out, we should continue the diagnostic process by differentiating between travellers and immigrants, as the cause of these disorders differs between the two groups. Apart from an HIV infection, the presence of pancytopenia should generally lead to an initial diagnosis of either malaria or visceral leishmaniasis.
