An accurate and efficient prediction of the NMR spectra of organoelement compounds containing heavy elements is on the cutting edge of the modern chemistry. Reviewed herewith are the relativistic effects provided by heavy chalcogens on light and heavy nuclei (accordingly, HALA and HAHA effects), which play a major role in the interpretation of the NMR spectra of vitally important chalcogen-containing compounds and should certainly be taken into account for practical purposes.
