Abstract On Au/NaY a very high degree of dispersion is achieved, but gold particles migrate and then agglomerate when reduction occurs. This deterioration is slowed or prevented by c0-exchanging various cations into the zeolite, including transition metal cations such as Cr, Fe, Ni and Co. These co-exchanged systems are much more stable and exhibit very high activities even at temperatures of 400–500 °C. The effect is dependent on the reduction potential of the co-exchanged metals concerned. As the reduction potential becomes more negative, Ni2+, −0.23 ≪ Fe3+, −0.41
