Abstract This work is summarizing the main researcher's contributions in the development of heavy metals adsorbent. Emphasis has been placed on the factors affecting the performance of the adsorbents such as support structural properties, functional groups chemical properties, and properties of the combined inorganic-organic structure. The review includes adsorbents synthesized by two major synthesis routes namely (i) grafting and (ii) co-condensation. This literature review is aiming to trace the main achievements toward the synthesis of an efficient heavy metals adsorbent.
