Abstract The facile and effective synthesis procedure of an innovative tricationic ionic liquid was performed with determination of its physical and chemical properties. The absorption properties and application of the as-prepared aqueous phase ionic liquids was examined as a potential future solvent. The influence of absorption temperature and the concentration of ionic liquid was determined at different equilibrium pressures in the range of 90–240 kPa. The tricationic ionic liquid revealed to be advantageous as effective solvent for the absorption of carbon dioxide according to the functional groups and high structural flexibility.
