Abstract 2,2,2-Trichloro-N-[(trimethylsilyl)methyl]acetamide and 2,2,2-trimethyl-N-[(trimethylsilyl)-methyl]acetamide were prepared by reaction of N-[(trimethylsilyl)methyl]amine with acid chlorides of the corresponding acids. The crystal structure of 2,2,2-trichloro-N-[(trimethylsilyl)methyl]acetamide was studied by X-ray analysis. Quantum chemical calculations (DFT 6-311++G**) were performed and FTIR-spectrum were obtained for study of self-association of these amides in gas phase and solutions in inert media.
