Abstract In Lithium-ion batteries, electrochemical performance is influenced primarily by the anodic material, cathodic material and also the type of the electrode laminate structure. A Comparative study of the above said factors in recent years will be very much beneficial in developing more efficient systems comprising lithium ion batteries with enhanced environmental effectiveness. Taking this point into consideration, this review provides a detailed comparison of various anodic and cathodic materials along with microstructure evolution in recent years. Also, this review concludes with a few prospects that might be considered as far as the development of the lithium-ion batteries is concerned.
