Abstract A series of novel 0D/2D CdS/Bi12O17Cl2 photocatalysts were fabricated through hydrothermal method, and their crystal structure, surface feature, element composition, and light absorption property were thoroughly investigated. The results demonstrated that 0D CdS nanoparticles adhered on 2D Bi12O17Cl2 nanosheets surface, which availably further photo-induced electron-hole pairs separation. For degrading Rhodamine B and tetracycline hydrochloride, CdS/Bi12O17Cl2 exhibited higher degradation ability than Bi12O17Cl2. Finally, based on trapping experimental results, and electronic band structures of CdS and Bi12O17Cl2, a possible Z-scheme photocatalytic mechanism over 0D/2D CdS/Bi12O17Cl2 catalyst was revealed.
