Abstract A chemical vapor deposition (CVD) unit has been used to synthesize carbon nano fibers (CNF) from linseed oil at 850 °C. A detailed characterization of CNF was done with SEM, TEM, XRD, and Raman. CNF are obtained having a diameter of 533 nm and length in the range of 30–40 μm. Microwave absorption study shows that CNF films have ability to absorb microwave frequency in Ku-band to the extent of 82–93% with absorption band width of 2.8 GHz in 13.40-16.20 GHz range. The shielding effectiveness of CNF is found to be −24 dB to −40 dB. It is concluded that CNF from linseed oil can be a promising candidate for applications in stealth, communication, space, remote sensing etc.
