Abstract This paper investigates the security of cyber-physical systems (CPSs) in the presence of periodic denial-of-service (DoS) attacks with energy harvester. The objective is designing periodic DoS attacks to maximize the attack performance on estimation error. For the jammer equipped with an energy harvester, two scenarios are studied: the energy harvester collects constant or time-varying energy during every period. For the first scenario, we present the optimal periodic attack strategy by dealing with the Markov decision process. For the second scenario, we offer an algorithm to obtain the optimal attack strategy, which is an improved strategy search method adopted to solve the optimization problems. The numerical results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of proposed methods.
