Highlights • Dendritic complexity and presynaptic density are reduced in the 4R-tauopathies of PSP and CBD.• The reduction in ODI and UCB-J binding is coupled across the cortical mantle as well as subcortically.• The relationship between ODI and UCB-J binding is not attributed to atrophy.• ODI may be a useful biomarker of synaptic pathology in neurodegenerative diseases.

Keywords: dendritic complexity; presynaptic density; vivo coupling; complexity presynaptic
