(2020) identify an evolutionarily conserved mechanism of presynaptic homeostatic plasticity induced by ALS-like motor neuron degeneration, which maintains excitatory potentials until a threshold of synaptic loss is reached. Past this tipping point, disease onset progresses rapidly.
