Abstract This paper studies a fluid–particle interaction model for the evolution of particles dispersed in fluid. This coupled model consists of the Smoluchowski equation for the particle part, and 2D isentropic compressible Navier–Stokes equations for the fluid part. The global existence of strong solutions to the Cauchy problem of the coupled system with large initial data which may contain vacuum is established.
