Abstract We demonstrate and experimentally verify an achromatic tunable polarization rotator based on Berry phase using three non-ideal mirrors. A parallel transport matrix algorithm is used to determine polarization rotation for all linear polarization states. Using a spectroscopic Mueller matrix polarimeter, we demonstrate that the system achieves less than 0.8° of chromatic variation in circular retardance over the spectral range of 500–800 nm. We also show how to tune the circular retardance by adjusting mirror deflection angle.
