Abstract We report the application of two widely tunable directly modulated distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) lasers to cover over 20 nm wavelength. 10 Gb/s data are transmitted up to 30 km distance at different wavelengths with the wavelength range. The results indicate that the DBR lasers are promising light sources for the next generation high capacity wavelength division multiplexed passive optical network (WDM-PON) systems.
